Rough Country 3" Kit, 20,000 Mile Update

Just thought I would give a Long Term Update on the Rough Country 3" Lift Kit.

There have been lots of negative results out there even before I purchased mine but I decided to go with it because it is the perfect lift hight and is easily returned to stock. I went with the optional control arm upgrade as well. Cost was good as well, I installed the kit myself.

So far I have had zero issues with the lift, no worn parts no drivability issues at all, the only downside is the rougher ride and MPG drop but both of those were expected and I blame most of the rough ride on the tires since I went with load range E tires. I am runnung 33" Firestone Destination MT's.

Would I recomend this lift to others, Yes, so far I have seen no reason not to.

By the way, the truck is a 2009 Silverado ECSB 4x4 Z71 with 3.73 gears and the 5.3L

Out of curiosity, did you notice a real difference with the LT/E tires when towing (stability)?

No not really but I had installed the lift at the same time the tires went on and I have never really towed anything really heavy with that truck (3500# and less).

On my 2008 I still have the stock Bridgestones that are P265/65R18 and tow my 8000lb Travel trailer, I have pulled that trailer across the country with no issues and that trailer has 1000 lbs of tongue weight. I do suspect that the heavier weight rated tires (Load Range D or E) would be a little less likely to sway but I am not sure if the harsh ride is worth it.

I've read "over again" on various forums that the LT tires at 60 psi significantly reduces "wabble" when towing. Haven't tried myself, but wonder. I do know that running max pressure in my P tires (44 psi) makes a *noticable* difference in "feel".

So your upper control arms don't touch your coils and your alignment is within specs? If that is the case, I think you are the ONLY one who is the exception. I'm so glad they bought that crap back from me.

It is good to hear you like it, I hope you don't have any problems with it. Truck looks good!
