Winch Help

Well after all this snow we got I have been pulling other cars and trucks out. I used to have a Jeep with a winch mounted to the front frame. When I sold the Jeep and bought my silverado I kept the winch and I hhad to use it to day. I ended up using the 2" mount and a battery out of a volvo.

So my question is do any of you have winches on your trucks? Im thinking of keeping the setup like this because I can take it off whenever I want. Should I use a Optima blue top if I keep it like it is?

Sorry if that doesnt make sense im super tired.

I wonder if two batterys would be better? get alittle more power to the winch.

Dual batteries would definately help. Also would help to hook it to your truck battery. You can keep it running and have the alternator helping charge the batteries. Some quick connects are very nice for stuff like this. I couldn't find the ones without the clamps on the ends, but here is an example. Hook up to your winch instead of jumper clamps.

I was thinking of running some wires from the battery to the rear of my truck but the downside is they would be unfused and only used on my truck. What i liked about using the batterys is that I could put it on anything with a 2" hitch. As we were pulling it out, at the end you could tell the battery was dying. But like you said it would be some much better being on the alternator.

Run a wire to the trailer connector so it'll charge the battery for you....or would that to way too much draw ?

I think it would pop the fuse.

The winch draws around 600amps at full load.

i had a 12,000 pound rated hitch installed in the front so i could mount my winch in the front or rear as the need arises.. the winch is mounted on a hitch receiver

0 gauge Welder cable run from the front to the rear..

Nice, I think I can get some 1/0 and ill be using that.
