Correspondingly, the 6L90 six-speed is enhanced for greater strength, smoothness and quietness. That was accomplished by:

 

 

• Adding four attachment bosses to the transfer case adapter (4WD models) for increased strength and smoother, quieter performance
  
• Increasing the cross section size of the transfer case adapter for greater strength
  
• Adding a new, stronger output shaft
  
• Adding a new heat shield and vent hose.
  

is this all the improvements?

How would i know which one i have, L80 or L90? it is a six speed, i know that much :-I

so what is the 80 in?

that number is a relating to the torque handling capabilities of the tranny,so the 80 would be in a 1/2 t

 

the old 4l60 is half ton and the 4l80 is 3/4 ton,

 

and sometimes an 80 was in a half ton with a 6.5 diesel yrs ago
