2010 Silverado Starting Issue

I have a 2010 silverado with the 5.3 in it, a few months ago i noticed it acted like it was starving for fuel when i started it. Took it to the dealership and they said that the fuel pump was bad, the truck has only 5,000 miles. Got fuel pump in a few days later was doing the same thing. Took it back and didnt do it for them and even left it over night. So the mechanic went out with me to start it and it sputtered when i started it. He told me that i need to turn the key on and wait a few seconds before i start it so that a fuel module could get power to send fuel to the motor. I do that now and it still sputters every now and then. Anyone else have this issue?

You need to find a better mechanic. The pump runs for ~2 sec when you turn the key on, which is purging out the air that is entering your fuel system.

You are losing fuel pressure somewhere. Bad fuel line connection (unlikely), bad fuel pressure regulator (somewhat likely), or bad injector (somewhat less likely).

I have a gmc mechanic thats a friend i will have him take a look. It just dose it if the trucks been sitting for awhile. The chevy mechanic also told me that the fuel module was a new thing that they started doing on the 2010. Earlier when i started it the starter keep trying to get it started keep going trying for about 5 second. I bet you are right it is for sure losing fuel pressure somewhere. I just want it right for a 40,000 dollar truck i shouldnt be having this trouble.

I had similar symptoms. There are others on this forum that have experienced the same thing. There is another post here, but I am not sure what to search under. When I had the problem, I attributed it to getting some bad fuel. I put in some fuel treatment at the next fill-up. I ran that tank down to about 1/4. The problem started to get better immediately, but it took another tank of good gas for the truck to start like it should. That was about two months ago. I haven't had any problems since then.

Definitely not normal and don't let them tell you that you need to leave the key on and then turn it to start. it's not a diesel.

Mine fires right up everytime. Let us know what your friend finds out.
