Keeping Drl On With Headlights

Im looking to keep my amber DRL on with my headlight, I have used a 1amp 400V diode and also tried a 6amp 50Volt diode however both of the diodes get hot when on ( iam jumping the HDLP 87 pin and DRL 87 pin). This method works but I was wondering if the heat is normal or if there is another way to do this mod. Thanks

Use a better diode. 6A is pretty light for what you're doing. DigiKey or somebody like that should have 24V/20A on the shelf.

Well considering the 4 high mod (03-06) only uses a 1 amp diode I figured a 6 amp would be more than enough. But the heat is this issue so im not sure if there is another way todo this without a diode.

70 reviews and only one reply. Well i jumped the 85 pins together with the diode and it works and the diode stays cool. The only problem now is that it keeps the DRL on with the headlights when the truck is OFF( This is what I want). However, as soon as I start the truck they no longer turn on with the headlamps.
