Stock 17" Wheels, What Kind Of Tires Can I Run

Like the title says, I'm installing a 3" zone body lift and 2" RC front level kit. I just can't swing new rims right now, so i'm gonna have to throw some new tires on the stock 17's i have. What kind of tire size do you think i can run on the stockers with that setup and not having it look to gaudy? Does anyone maybe have pictures somewhere of this setup? I've been looking and can't seem to find much

im looking at doing the same thing and what i found is that you are limited to 285/70 or 295/70. some people say you can fit a 33x12.5 on your stock tire, but from what i understand, the tire will wear funny. sorry if thats not much help, maybe someone else will chime in.

What tires have people found in the 295/70/17? My buddy who owns a tire shop is having a hard time finding some. Seems like this size might be a bit more common? 285/70R17 (33X11.50R17)

Toyo M/T would be my choice.

I am also debating on which tire size to use on my stock rims since new rims are not in my budget. My truck is stock with no lift. I am considering the Nitto Trail Grapplers. Will the 295/70/17 size tires work with no lift or do I have to stick with the 265/70/17?

joshvmax08, you will have to stick with your stock size tire since you dont have a leveling kit or body lift.

 

07sierrajay, toyo, cooper, bfg all have a 295/70/17 tire according to their websites

Nitto also makes the 295 70 17 in Mud and Terra

 

 

A 285/70/17 is actually sightly taller than a 305/65/17. While the 315/70/17 is a 34.3" tall tire.

 

So what do you consider a 33 besides the rare and expensive 295 size?

you should prolly shop around, because some of the quotes i got for 295/70/17 were cheaper than 285/70 and 33x12.5.

I'm quickly finding out this is not a cheap sized tire!

 

The best i've found is some Nitto's for $200/tire

I consider a 33" tire one that is 33 inches not 32.6-8 which most if not all 285/70/17 are. The only exception to this rule in the 285 size is BFG KM2's that are 33.1, all others are a 32.???.

 

The 295 is not as rare as you think and not as expensive if you do some homework and wait for a deal or two to come along.

 

I got all 4 of my Nitto Terra's in 295/70/17 for $752.13 installed at 4 wheel parts during a 3 day customer appreciation weekend. I have seen most members pay way more than that for 285's, upwards near 1 grand.

 

I agree with Chad that you can find 295's for a good price.

285s and 305s are made by every tire manufacture out there and have been since 20s were considered big wheels lol

 

I can find a 305 much cheaper than any 295 you show me. Yes sometimes bigger tires with the same manufacture will be a few bucks cheaper (like a 33" BFG 275/70/18 is cheaper than the 32" BFG 275/65/18).

 

But 295 are a more rare size and a little more expensive, since only a select few tire companies make it.

They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park!       Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍

      Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
