Weight Matters

I drove a company ~08 Single Cab Silverado truck today with the 5.3/4-spd. Probably a 3.42 rear (2wd). Bone stock, of course. I couldn't believe the difference in scoot that thing had. Probably not the same as a 6.2/6-spd in Crew Cab, but *noticably* quicker than my truck. Mine is also bone stock on the power-train, but I can't believe it's just the weight. It's almost like it was tuned differently. Has me thinking a tune may be required. All the talk about 4 vs 6-spds, but this single cab drove a lot quicker than any 6-spd/3.42 crew cab I've tested. The axle was wrapping up on it with slight throttle (in a turn)!

It is around 500 pounds difference between a regular cab and crew cab, and then 2wd to 4wd would be another 200 or so pounds so it would be quite the difference, you must have notice a difference in stopping too.

Yup, sure did... and tighter turning. It was a fun drive. 700 lbs out of 5500 is about 13% lighter. So, adding 10% torque (or gearing) to a crew would have about the same seat-o-pants result.

i drove a buddies bare bones extended cab gmt 800 a while back, its a long box vs my short box but his was noticably peppier than mine. but hes got cloth seats and all power options with 2wd, ive got leather in a crew cab with 4wd. and with me in it and about a quarter tank of gas she tiped the scales at just under 5800 pounds, thats with nothing loaded into it, his was 5600 but we filled his box with a few hundred pounds or so of scrap metal.
