08 Oil Pressure?

Recommended Posts

i have been putting synthetic 5w 30 in my truck and noticed that the oil pressure is around 30 at idle and 40-42 when driving. what are the specs for oil pressure?

My 04 Suburban with the 5.3 engine has about 40 psi at idle and about 50 psi when driving. I have used 5w 30 and now use 0w 30 Mobil One in mine. 135,000 miles. I am not sure how accurate these gauges are. My 2000 Suburban with the same engine, using 5w 30 Mobil One, idled at about 45 psi and drove at 60+ psi.

That sounds low. I run between 55 and 60 psi when running 70mph. I have 84,xxx miles on my 2008 sierra 5.3. I run synthetic 5w30 (I switch between Castrol, Mobil 1, and Penzoil).

Oil pressure is fine, my truck runs at 25psi hot idle and 40-45 hwy, many gm 900's have low idle oil pressure for whatever reason.

what would cause u to use 0w, in the winter that would be way to thin. always follow engine specs. unless u dont live in cold climate than there would be no difference between the 5w and 0w, w stands for winter not weight.

Nothing wrong with using 0w

like i said as long as u dont live in a cold climate, some people think it saves gas not seeing a benifit since it is the same viscosity as 5w 30 at say 50 degrees, w is for winter not weight
