Lionel Trains

The trains have been in boxes and shelves for the past 6 years, but they have finally seen light again. Ive finally found the time to take a section of the barn to build a layout, which will begin construction in the next couple weeks. I emptied out the train store this past weekend of track and, thanks to a half price sale, rolling stock and the Chessie diesel set. I have several more to unbox and still some stuff in the mail. Ill try and make a thread to keep layout construction updates once I begin. Anyway, I thought I might find some fellow train buffs here, and maybe some of you will find it interesting.

You must got some amazing concentration to put all that together!

 

You need to make them go all around your house so you can drop something on the train and someone in the next room can pick it up!

Its been probably 25 years since I last remember seeing lionel trains......We had them when I was a kid......I can still remember the smell of the motor....

I enjoy carpentry, laying track, and making scenery. Wiring can go straight to hell. I don't know what it is about wiring, but I hate it with a passion, unfortunately, its 50 percent of the job haha.

I don't build them but I love the detail that some of the dioramas have and as an electrial engineer I enjoy seeing all the work and systems that peolple come up with to bring the set ups to life...truly an art form

I currently dread the wiring coming up. Between switches, building lightning, street lighting, track power and any other absurdity that I feel needs to be done, its gonna be a job

I cant remember the smoke off the top of my head. Although this was the early to mid 80s when I remember them the most, and the trains were probably from the 70s!!!

I had a setup in my previous house. I've got HO trains. One of these days I've got to find time to start setting things up again. Keep the pics coming Andy.

That Chessie, Now THAT is a GM Diesel! Or to be a little more Specific, Electro-Motive Division of GM. if you want to know why Light Duty GM Diesels Sucked so bad in the 70s and 80s, that's because GM's Experience with Diesel Engines were only of the 2-Stroke Variety, and they were BIG.

people who work on the railroad call rail enthusiasts "foamers", because they foam at the mouth to see our trains

Nice!!! I have a few HO scale myself and also work as an electrical engineer type( I don't have a degree) for Union Pacific. I do know about "foamers", some interesting people!
