Truck Squeaking When Going Over Bumps

Recommended Posts

So recently since its been feeling good around here and I've been riding with the windows down. When I go over bumps I hear a quiet squeaking. Now recently its gotten a little louder, I can hear it with the windows up with the radio off.

What is it that's squeaking? Shocks? Something else? I only have 30k on the truck so still under warranty. Just trying to get a idea what it is making the noise?

Leaf springs most likely.

Mine squeaks bad over speeds bumps when its cold outside. I replaced the shocks and upper control arms and it still squeaks. I almost think its the springs its so loud. I also want to take the sway bar off to see if thats whats squeaking.

try spraying all of your bushings with some HD silicone spray and see if that helps. Energy Suspension sells stabilizer bar bushing with grease fitting in them for little $$

good luck

I also noticed a squeak on my '10 Sierra (only 14k miles) the other day with my windows down, and my '02 Silverado had the same sounding squeak. I'd describe it as sounding like one of those styrofoam coolers squeaking, that sound like yours?

I was wondering if it's the leaf springs too. So is there an easy fix if it's the leaf springs?

Same issue here for the past year (40k on my rig). I'm waiting for some warm weather to get under there and attack the leaf springs with a can of silicone spray.

+1 sometimes it helps to have someone walk along side the truck while you go over a speed bump to replicate the noise so you can pin point it.

I was reading the GM Techlink the other day and remember reading about a front end squeak.

Go here http://www.sandyblogs.com/techlink/index.html

Then scroll all the way down to "Truck Issues - Fix It Right The First Time"

It's the first one. It reads like this:

Condition - "Squeak/Creak/Rumble or Rattle Noise from Front of Vehicle During Low Speed Maneuvers in Cold Ambient Temps"

The Fix - "Enlarge upper ID of strut jounce bumper"

Reference Bulletin -"10-03-08-002A"

I took mine back to the dealer and they lubed up the leaf springs, that stopped it. I beleive there is a TSB on this problem.

I tried silicone spray on mine, but only lasted a very short while. I took an old tire inner tube and cut a piece about 2 inches long by the width of the spring and sandwiched it between the two pieces that slide on the rear of the spring. Not sure of the technical name of that part of the spring, but anyway never had another problem with squeaks. I did that on both sides of the truck. Nice truck bty.
