Ford Test Videos?

So, i have been looking at a few videos from 2011 ford powerstroke vs the 2011 gm d-max. These videos say that the ford gets better mileage towing and hauling over the chevy. i think that is really strange considering when i saw the "rumble in the rockies", ford got beat on everything. So, why do these videos not match up and who is lying?

Ford is lying. The links you posted are Ford advertisements while the Rumble in the Rockies test is an independent third party test that, truthfully, show the GM HDs are superior.

It's the same thing as when Ford tested their twin turbo, near luxury appliance, high in the mountains against a bunch of naturally aspirated sedans....and then came out and said their car was better because it won. And then used that lop-sided test to back up their claim.

Ford MUST have the tables turned in their favor to be competitive. But when the rubber hits the road and all things are equal, Ford loses every time.

But why, way cant ford play fair? i understand that some trucks are better at things than others but come on. the extra 800lbs the ford has is to do with the sd being heavier than the chevy. and i looked at the videos again, the chevy was going faster in every clip they showed. idk, i'm not trying to start something, just saw the videos and thought, "something isnt right here."

The rumble in the rockies measured fuel economy over a long distance. The videos posted above were 5 gallons for the diesel test and 3 gallons for the gas test. We all know that how hard you accelerate can change your mileage greatly. It would only take a small amount of difference by the drivers to make the differences shown.

That is incorrect. Conditions were agreed upon prior to the test. Conditions that made that specific test, one of the most honest tests ever performed. The article clearly states that in the opening paragraphs...in fact, it's the next paragraph below the selective quote you posted from the article.

We agreed with a few conditions: Chevrolet had to use test trucks purchased off the lot from Chevy and Ford dealers and the Super Duty had to have the 400/800 power ratings. They couldn't come from GM's captive test fleet and the trucks had to be as "apples-to-apples" as possible when it came to features and equipment. While Chevrolet originally wanted to test three-quarter-ton HD pickups — the heart of the HD market — we had to use one-ton trucks because that was the only way to match equivalent rear axle ratios of 3.73. We also had to drive and instrument the trucks to measure the results ourselves. Chevy reps would be along for the ride.

Yes I agree that it was a very honest test, but for GM to come forward and challenge Ford to this challenge, they KNEW that were going to win, just like Ford knows they are going to win in the challenges they do against other brands.

Every manufacturer does selective testing and selective challenges to bring out the in the best in their particualr product IN THAT PARTICULAR SITUATION.

I'm not so sure.

GM knew they would win when they initially challenged Ford. I bet they were slightly less confidant when PUT.com stated their 'lost of demands'.

That being said, whether the manufacturer knew they were going to win or not is not the issue here. That doesn't matter. The issue is Ford purposely lop-siding the tests that they are trying to sell as legit tests. The Rumble in the Rockies was a fair compairson that used two extremely similar trucks.

The vehicle should be able to win on it's own merits.....not only when the tables are turned in its favor.

I would be just as critical if GM stooped as low as Ford routinely does.

They need to re-do thast rumble in the rockies now that Dodge has updated the cummins. Last time dodge was even a contender, now they're claiming best in class.

Does Dodge have an innovative exhaust brake like GM does? I can't remember.

Wouldn't that be a slap in the fact if Dodge took second? I think a 3rd grader could design a better braking system than Ford has on their Super Dooty...so Dodge taking 2nd is a very strong possibility.
