Installed New Fuel Pump Assy And....

when i fired it up(2000 GMC Sierra 5.3) the gas gauge went 180 degrees from empty position and wont move.Any suggestions? I just put in a brand new Bosch unit from Advance yesterday evening.Has my gauge bit the dust? Any help for the newbie will be appreciated.(really new to GMC, too havent had it but a year)

the little float piece on the pump assembly is the sensor for the fuel level. sounds like it was broke or not installed where it could freely move.

Well as far as plugging it in you can plug it in wrong.only 2 plugs and they wont interchange.Could a bad ground cause this? Or possibly not enough gas in tank to hit the float?

I think yes a bad ground could cause something like this. My gas gauge in my 67 camaro went way past full after I installed a new sending unit. Turns out the ground was bad. once i cleaned up the ground contact it was reading fine again.

Did you swap out connectors with the new ones supplied by bosch I know gm had some trouble with the factory fuel pump wiring and now you have to cut the old 1 off and put the new one back on,I had to do it on my Silverado this is what it should look like out of the box attach_add.png
