pcm updates

I just got my truck back from the dealer today, they fixed my rattle in the steering shaft and transmission shutter.  I asked them to update my computer and he said they would, but I don't see anything on my invoice saying they did.  Does anyone know if they update the VCI page when they hook up the TECH II?  I put my VIN in again and the same updates are available.

Well, I do know this....  Last week I had my truck in for the usual warranty stuff (wind noise, detonation, lean on the drivers side,...) and I had them re-flash the module with the latest update.  When I looked at the invoice they did have it listed as one of the things done.  Unless they just forgot to list it on the invoice because they didn't wait to get paid by GMC for doing it, I would say they just forgot and didn't update the module.

Is there a way to find out what updates to the ECM are availalble?  I don't think my 99 Silverado has had any updating done at all. The only engine work done under warranty was the replacement of the TB.  The copy of the invoice I got for that work showed the TSB number for the sticking TB problem.

Thanks for the link!!  I'm headed to the dealer tomorrow for a LOF and they are going to check what, if anything, has been uploaded.

If I had mine updated a couple of days ago, should any updates ahow up now when I enter my VIN?  When I got my truck back from the dealer, I noticed my radio stations had not been reset.  I thought you would have to unplug the battery to do the update?

My 2000 Silverado is in the shop right now to see if there are any pcm updates available.

I took in the print out from the Vehicle Calibration Info site to the dealer yesterday and asked them to check to see if any updates were available. They were a bit reluctant to do any work if nothing was wrong. My service advisor ended up writing it up for hesitation on acceleration and they took it. He told me that often, the VCI site is not 100% accurate and that they use their own tools to check.

I would think that if an update comes out to address hesitation or something similar, it should be a recall. Instead, they just wait until you complain before fixing it.

Some hesitation problems are due to reformulated fuel additives (environment friendly).  Anymore, there seems to be umpteen million different variations of fuel.  Fuel can vary between counties and even within a county, a large city could have a different variant.  Normally the changes are done March and October.  However, it could be weekly due to weather.

If anyone that works at a fuel depot, chime in.....

So some updates could possibly be regional only.

For those of you that will be taking your truck in for the update, one way to get them to do this is telling them that you having a detonation problem when under moderate acceleration.
