" I have a 02' Super Duty Powerstroke. I have added a Air-raid intake and a Power-Aid Helix Bore spacer which gave me around 10 +/- hp and 15lb torque. I was wondering which mod I should make next. I was thinking about a powerchip, but don't have any clue on which company to go with. I'd like to gain at least 40 hp. I've heard that Hyper-Tech is pretty good. Should I go with Hyper-Tech or another company? After the chip should I get an exhuast? If so what brand? "

Go to the forums section of: www.f150online.com

Even though that site is primarily F-150's, they do have superduty and computer chip sections in the forums. There is a Superchips dealer that frequents the forum and he is very helpful and knowledgeable, or you can ask others about their chips.

I believe that the Superchips chip adds something like 50h.p. but I don't remember the torque number.

I don't know if he already has gauges or not, but if not the first thing he needs to do is add an EGT (by far the most important) and boost gauge.  They are important enough that most stock trucks should have them, but I would never "chip" a diesel truck without having those two gauges first.  If he is only wanting around 40Hp his stock exhaust should be just fine, but much more then that I would upgrade to a 4" system.  Don't really think one particular brand is that much better then the next.

As for the chips, he should check out TS performance.  A lot of the guys over on ford-diesel have their products, and really like them.  They have 4 different single positions chips (from 50-125Hp) that are on sale right now.  It isn't mentioned on the site, but I believe they also have what is called a "flip chip".  It allows the driver to select from 3 different settings, one of which is stock.  Might be worth checking into because being able to change back to stock is nice when traction is limited.

Last setup on my dads 99 PSD:

  Banks chip, exhaust, tranny chip, stiffer waste gate actuator...Guages (pyrometer, boost) Blah blah blah.... Made an estimated 750lb ft...{based on other trucks with similar/ same setup that have been dynoed}

Current setup on his '01 PSD:

  Superchips programmer (awesome, look into it), guages... blah blah blah.... (not sure on power, but hes as happy with the Superchips Programmer as he was when he got the Banks for the 99   ???

Hes getting old  :jester: And were not pulling a trailer as much, so he spent less on his 2001... Ive driven it both when stock and with the programmer... Noticeable difference...:thumb:

Your friend seems to have the right idea...although it is tempting to go for the quick power with a chip a diesel needs to first breath free to have max gains...4" down pipe and full exhaust would be a good idea...Gages are a must when moding a diesel... you can get a different turbo housing, fin, and actuator and better butter fly to upgrade the turbo... those chips are great I've never messed with one on a Powerstroke before....

Just my $0.02
