American Racing Atlas Rims

I am looking into puchasing a set of rims and tires in spring, I have decided on tires, BFG MT's, with all your help. Now I am looking into getting American Racing Atlas rims. Keeping my stock size tire 265/75/16. Is there anything I should know about this rim. Should I get the Polished or Chrome? There is a considerable difference in price. Any place I can get these cheap?

Not sure if you have one in your area or not but Sears Tire America had the best price when I bought mine. :thumb: Saved $100 on all four over everyone else.

I went with the silver clearcoat. Chrome will rust and polished will not stay polished. I don't think the Atlas comes in a silver clearcoat though.

Your truck looks awesome. Are those the AR Python rims. or what rim do you have. I really like those as well, they are similar to the atlas. How much did you end up paying for them at Sears. What's the advantages to the clearcoat?

Your truck looks awesome.

Thanks!

I caught Sears when they had all the AR's on sale for 10% off. I think I paid $130.00 each. Yep they are the Pythons. I tried to find a set that was unusual. No one in my area has any that I have seen. The truck gets lots of looks. :(

I chose the silver clearcoat because I went through trying to keep a set of polished alum. clean one time. It's a pain in the @ss. The polished alum. have no coating on them, they are just what they say "polished alum." They will scratch easy since nothing is protecting the surface. On the chrome, I would never own a set of chrome wheels again. They look good for a while but will eventually rust.

I had my eye on the Atlas at one time, but for the reasons above I went with the Python.

BTW I saved big time on the tires too. I ordered them through Pep Boys. $110.00 each. You can't beet that price with a stick. BFG's were over $200. I can but two sets of what I got for the price of one BFG. :thumb:

Hope this helps.

Check out: http://www.wheelsforless.com/

They have:

AR Atlas 16X8 6/5.5 for $119.00

AR Python 16X8 6/5.5 for $124.00

These prices include lug nuts, center caps and valve stems.

Shipping is 55.60 for 4 wheels with no sales tax as long as you're not in Texas.

Also, you should consider running 295s or at least 285s.  265s are tiny.

Are those 8" or 10" wheels your running?

They are 8". The 315's pretty much max out that width.

Your truck looks great by the way.

Thanks! :thumb:

Get the Chrome ones!  Its easier to keep them clean and/or from getting rusty than it is to keep the polished polished.

My next set of wheels will be chrome!!

DiHappy,

What size are your AR rims?

16x8 or 16x10's?

I'm trying to decide what size would be better for my 2000 Silverado with a 6" RCD lift.

The tire dealer is telling me definately the 10's but I don't want them to stick out too far...

Thanks,

Well, I woulda gone 10'' myself, but i didnt have a lift on at the time so i got the 8's.

If you have an RCD, you may not have a full 6 inches of lift.

Hopefully you measured your fender height before you lifted it and now after.

If you do have 6 inches, you can get by with either 8'' or 10'' wheels.

The 10 wheels will stick out only a bit more, and with fender flares its not a big deal. If youve only got 4 or 5 inches you may rub a little with the 10's if you go with 35'' tires.  33's should be fine.

Personally, i like the tires to stick out a bit, not much.

My Atlas' are 4.5'' backspacing and i do like the way they look, but its time for a little change and the new wheels pictured above will be 17x9's.

Peace!

A few weeks after I did my truck, a guy put the same lift as mine (4.5") on a 2001 or 2002 Z71 with 10" wheels. Rubbed like crazy. They also stuck out a pretty good ways. If you go with a 10" wheel make sure you get the most backset as you can.

I actually think I got more than the 4.5" out of my lift. I have a lot of room for the 35's. I did have to trim the corner of the lower spoiler/valance.

Don't let the dealers spoof you. You can run a 12.5" tire on a 8" wheel with no problems. I have been doing it for 15 years.

Just my $0.02

Good luck :thumb:
