Best Stall Speed For Me?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I drive a 97 Chevy k1500 ECSB. 5.7 & 4L60-E. I have 4.56 gears, and plan to have a tune + a couple of bolt ons (full exhaust setup, intake, e-fans...).

I getting my tranny rebuilt when my tax returns come in. Going to do a full rebuild, shift kit, and corvette servo. Not sure on what stall I need for my new torque converter though. I am looking a one that has a stall speed of 2000-2600 rpms. Is this too much for my setup?

Thanks,

Zach

Seriously? I thought 2600 would be a little too much.

You will have trouble finding and aftermarket converter with a stall lower than 2600. Stock replacement would be about it and they stall towards the 1800 RPM area. I too would probably go with a 2600 if I planned to get one for your truck.

what is your actual goals? if you are towing go back with a stock replacement.

I wouldn't go any higher than a 2600 behind a stock cam in a 5.7.

Wow.. your rear tire looks like its rubbing in your avatar.. I dont' see how that's drivable.

I have no rubbing issues anywhere, back nor front. They are only 35s...

Thanks for all the input. I plan on ordering all my stuff tonight. I guess im going with the 2000-2600 stall. I dont due any heavy duty towing. Just my small boat or jet skit mainly.

i wouldnt go any less than 3k most good converters still have a full tow rating with a 3k. anything less and your wasting money imho i had a 3600 in my truck and loved it but i didnt tow anything. i would also recomened a yank or percision industries
