2011 Sierra 1500 Snow Plow Prep Package

Hey,

 

I just ordered a new truck with the plow prep package and the dealership, go figure, gave me no insight whatsoever for what kind of wires are built in for the beacon. To my knowledge there are some wires tied up above the roof lining for a light. Anyone know what kind of plug it is. Any other info on what the package includes wiring wise would be helpful.

The beacon light wiring on a gmt-900 is now located in the

center overhead light/console (where the beacon switch is

located also). The 2 wires are blunt cut and are tied/loose

to the console support.

 

To access the wires you need to remove the console overhead

light cover (and sometimes the 2 screws to drop the light/console

down to un-tie them.

 

DO NOT pull or tug on overhead console to release lens/light

cuz you will break the cheap/junk clips and the console will sag

or hang loose!!!!!!!!!!

Use a pick tool to release light lens!

 

(Ask me how I know!)

EASY to access the wires compared to the gmt-800s !!!!!!!!

Thanks! Its been hard to get about anything out of the dealership about this package. Have you ever heard of any warranty problems by having a plow on a new truck?

The only time you would have a warranty service issue with a

plow is if you DIDN'T have the VYU plow prep option and broke

something due to snowplowing.

Also note you will have to install a maxi-fuse in the underhood fuse center to get power to the beacon light switch and wires.

what plow? I had a 7' on my 07 crew NBS no plow prep so I was technically voiding my warranty and it was just too small then I got a 8 foot which was too heavy. I now got the Right truck for the Job with the plow prep. I think you need a 7 1/2 foot plow to be happy, lot of brands out their to choose from.
