I am looking at purchasing a new hunting rifle chambered in .270 Winchester or 7mm Rem. Mag. I cannot decide between the Weatherby Vanguard or the Tikka T3 Hunter.

A little info on the weatherby:

1) Uses the screw in Mark barrel

2) Uses a Howa 1500 reciever

3) Guranteed to shoot 1.5" or less group at 100 yards

A little info on the Tikka T3

1) Uses its big brother's screw in Sako barrel

2) Lighter carry weight

3) Not sure what reciever but I'm pretty sure its Tikka's own design.

4) I think it gurantees 1.5" group at 100 yards too.

If you guys want to add any pertinent info on either of these 2 guns and caliber it would be greatly appreciated.

Also I don't want any of the "Those are junk get this one." posts because I know of other guns but I want a carry gun not a mantle piece I am afraid of scratching because I paid tons of $$$ for it.

Thanks,

Chas

Well I did some research and I am going with the tikka t3 hunter in .270 win. I was thinking about the WSM but the price to shoot is awful expensive. I was looking at the 7mm Rem. Mag but the 2 rounds were almost the same except the 7mm could shoot a little heavier bullet. It will be more than enough for deer and black bears in my area.

Thanks everyone for the info and help,

You won't be dissapointed with the Tikka. The 270 is a great choice too, cheap to shoot, can take down anything you can hunt in the US and can find ammo just about anywhere. I've had mine in 300wsm for 3 years now and love it. I've taken 3 pronghorn and 11 deer with it, the longest at 364 yards. Its very light so can carry it all day, has the smoothest bolt I've ever used and shoots 1.5" or better groups with the 4 different bullets I've put through it. The only thing I can bitch about is the cost of the clips, the cheapest I can find is $70. Just make sure you top it with a quality scope and you are good to go.

definitely go with the tikka, they are the same quality as the sako just with a couple plastic parts like the clip and for a 1/4 to 1/2 the price. my family as been using sako and tikka a very long time and never had any problems.

One thing that really persuaded me was the idea that Tikka uses the Sako barrel. A good friend of mine has a tikka and I read somewheer that they had a lot of plastic and after looking thru his the only "plastic" was the fiberglass clip and the end cap on bolt. From what I read these rifles are capable of sub-MOA 1" groups with good ammo. I am going to start reloading soon (getting too many rifles to keep buying ammo for) and think I can squeeze more accuracy out of the rifle.
