Rear Suspension.....

So recently I was looking at the rear of my truck and it looked like the shock absorbers were bent. I looked at them and realized I have a coil spring around my shock absorber. The coil spring is rubbing against the shock absorber. I took my truck to a mechanic friend, he looked at it with a little puzzled face on his face. He has a silverado himself and he doesn't have the coil springs on his. I have been promblems with the rear end of my truck feeling like it's coming off the ground when I go over bumps at a slow speed. I told my mechanic that and he really highly suggested me buying Rancho shocks and putting on it. SO.....does anyone else have this on their trucks? Ever had this problem? Rancho shocks good???

Sounds to me like someone put overload springs on the shocks, they have made shocks with the springs on like that for a long time. If your mechanic has not seen them you may want to rethink the one your using? Do they look like this?

He never actually said he had never seen them before. When walking out of the garage to my truck, he did say I shouldn't have them. Was then kind of puzzled when he went and looked at his and he didn't have them on his. All the other silverados I've seen don't have these on them. I have looked at regular silverados with and without the Z71 package, thinking it might have something to do with that. Out of like the 10 trucks I have looked at, I am the only one with these types of shocks on them. Yes, they are exactly like that. Wish I could get the pictures up loaded.

Did you buy the truck new, I am thinking someone was towing and put them on for that. I have Rancho's on my Z71 and they seem fine so far, any quality gas shock should be ok. I am sure you are bouncing more with the additional spring added.

I bought it used, but from what I was told the guy that had it before me didn't use it as a truck. He was older and it was easier to get in and out of.

Get rid of those rear shocks as soon as you can, and your truck will ride so much better. They should not be there, unless the owner berfore you was towing alot all the time. I can't think of any newer trucks that come from the factory that way. I have Rancho 9000XL struts and shocks, and they ride just as good if not better than the factory ones IMO. Good luck

I have uploaded some pictures of my shocks to my page....check them out and you will see what I am talking about. Spring is rubbing on the left side. I think you can see where it is actually tearing the rubber shroud on the absorber.

Well as of today I have two new Rancho RS9000XL rear shocks, new front brake pads and new front brake rotors. My truck is riding so much better. Thanks guys for the help and assistance on the issue. I could tell a huge difference in the ride in my truck just by leaving the shop. Road was a lot smoother leaving then it was going to. Thanks again guys! :uhoh:
