2001 Gmc Jimmy Gas Milage

Hello everyone. I Googled for answers to this and came up with this forum among others, and it seemed like the best. I think a neighbor is going to sell her deceased brother's 01 Jimmy. It is the top line model, 4-dr, auto, 4.3 V-6, 4wd.The thing is , it's in excellent shape with only about 25,000 miles. I've been trying to find out about milage. What I've found seems like 16-18 average. Is this your experience? It seems like such a small vehicle should have a good power to weight ratio and do better. If it is true, are there any after-market items I could add to improve things, maybe a cold air induction system or something. I think I could live with a 4wd in th 22-24mpg range, but not 16-18. Thanks all.

Thanks. Ouch, I was hoping for more. What rear end ratio normally comes in those models? I'm sure he didn't order anytthing special.

I can tell you that the 2001 Jimmy 4WD with the 4.3L V-6 engine and 4L60-E transmission is rated to get 15 MPG city and 20 MPG highway. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you.

The best way to save gas and really the only most effective is just lighten your load and make sure your tires are the same psi. Aftermarket parts won't improve your mpg IMO.
