Or sooner. I've had my truck for a month and they are already calling 3 times a week to extend my service...

The dealer should have taken care of activating xm. And like said, they will call you like crazy near the end of the free trial period. I was getting multiple calls in the same day. I had to get a little nasty and they finally stopped calling but they still send mailers.

Tell them you want to cancel the service at the end of the three month period. When they ask why, tell them you like the service but the price is too high. They have shot me a much lower price for 6, 8, and 12 months on three vehicles and one portable.

Now for how to activate, use the band button or flip through the presets until there is an XM channel on the screen, then using the tuning knob go to XM channel 0 or 1 (its one or the other and it is plain which is which as one of themis an emergency channel and the other is the one you want). The "Radio ID" for XM will be displayed on the screen. It will be something like "TMPM92", or something similar. Write this number down somewhere. Call the dealer and ask why you do not have three free months. If you are past the three month trial period or you do not have it for whatever reason (?!), then call XM Radio and talk to the sales department.

I reccomend getting names of people you talk to and agreements emailed or sent to you as they can be shifty about things.

XM0 showed the radio ID, XM1 was 'informational', should have checked before I posted.

+1 on the comment above, they WILL probably sign you up for auto-renew!

Don't let them store your credit card number or you will be automatically renewed. I had a heck of time with them on my last truck, I canceled and they still billed my credit card for 3 month (term I was option for). When I called about that they said the could not give me a refund because the new period had started and I needed to call before that did. But I did not know they charged my card till I got the bill. They when I finally got rid of it they would not leave me alone. About every few days around 6pm I would get a call about re-uping XM radio. Found out they farm out these to head hunters who get commissions to resign you. I thought I would have to cancel the credit card to stop them and I did file a complaint but nothing became of it.

I repete do not sign until the trial period is up. Tell them your not happy with there channel listings and that you need a way lower price for 12 months than what they are offering ( they will phone back again again and again )

and know this: no matter what they say they will sign you up for auto renewal.

When you are ready to renew, tell them that you no longer have that credit card (canceled the card, changed banks, or whatever) and ask that you be sent a bill in the mail so you can pay by check. They will do that. I have both my XM and Sirius subscriptions set up that way.

And when you try the initial cancel deal, just explain that the cost is too high and wish there was a way to continue the service. With a little effort you can talk them down to around $80 per year or even less.

Anyone renewed your subscription lately? Mine is up at the end of May and I got the bill from them for $386 for 3 years. I'd rather make an extra payment on my truck than give it to them. Any info will be appreciated.
