New Boss 330's Installed

I just installed a set of Boss 330 wheels.

I am using the stock size for the Escalade which is 22 X 9

The Boss wheel has a 30mm offset but with the curved spoke still has a deep dish appearance

I did the change to remove weight, with a secondary desire to improve looks.

The factory wheel weighed 45.4 pounds on my bathroom scale, where as the Boss 330 wheel weighed 38 lbs.

So I ended up saving 7.4 pounds per corner for a total of 29.6 pounds

It is much more important to remove rotational weight than sprung weight, Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the ratio in performance (Accleration) is around 5 : 1. Meaning one pound less of rotational weight equates to 5 pounds having been removed from sprung weight.

The motor power has to work less to spin up the four large gyros, so that freed up power is now available to push the weight of the vehicle.

That brings the total weight removed to 231.5 pounds!

It is different...Wat are you removing weight for? mpg? I mean I assume you arnt taking it to a track day anytime soon haha

I am making it into a sport truck of sorts. It will be a sleeper with very keen performance following a regiment of modifications I am doing. If you aren't familiar with the truck from this site, I am removing weight, so far 231 pounds. It will lose a lot more from a glass hood, removal of the rear bumper, alumimum drive shaft, aluminum cross member, lots of home made aluminum parts replacing heavier steel parts and so forth. It will get Wilwood brakes which weigh less than half the stockers and, well, brake better. Finally after it is at weight, I will finish the motor. It already has long tubes, K&N and a tune, but is getting ported heads, a cam, and a supercharger. The goal is mid to low 12 second runs while maintaining good street manners and being very subtle all the while. It's just a cool project I'm doing because of it's uniqueness.

Funny! My boy said the same thing! Well, I can always change them out when they wear out...

I'd completely agree with that.

Sounds like a really cool project. I'm going to have to follow this and see where it takes you. I've always loved the concept of the sleeper.

Awesome Truck! If I could afford it, I'd be driving the exact same thing... :)

Just a quick comment on the tires... It looks like you're going to be doing some high speeds... I hope those duelers are are rated appropriately... :lurk:

I'd hate to see you have a blow out!

Keep up the good work, and keep posting up pics!

Thanks for the concern, and I copy what you are saying.

I'll keep it legal with a couple test runs at the local 1/4 mile, but nothing more. When it comes time, I will upgrade the tires appropiately

Keep up the good work, and keep posting up pics!

Later!

B
