New Muffler For The Ole Silverado

I was wondering what would be a good muffler for my 04 silverado ext cab 5.3. Everything is stock except for a K&N CAI, super chips and 20 in wheels. Right now i have from what i think is a flowmaster 40 series dumped and every once an while when i rev it, i hear some sort of rattle but after im driving down the road for awhile it wont do it when i rev. I went to a muffler shop and they said everything inside the muffler was broken :) . I just want a muffler that has a good deep sound and thats not to raspy when gas it. I heard the Flowmaster american thunder series and thought it was pretty good. Any suggestions and anyone know of a good muffler shop in Amarillo, Tx? Thanks again.

Magnaflow hands down for the 5.3L :) I've had the "american thunder" and its just a 30-series muffler. A little quieter than the 40-series. My opinion of FM is they are junk. They only last about 2-3 years where you have winters.

Well i have been youtubing some videos on the magnaflow and cherry bomb and theres one of the magnaflow

that sounds good and theres the cherry bomb
that sounds awesome. I know that this doesnt do much justice on the sound since its on a camera and not in person. I have heard some dynoflow in person but not the magnaflow or cherry bomb. I just want something with a deep rumble and sounds good when accelerating and when i floor it oh and im thinking of duals straight out the back or a single rear exit. Thanks for the input too guys!! :)

Kinda hard to judge those videos unless they were shot with the same camera, conditions and angles! I have no experience with the cherry bomb, but magnaflow is a great muffler. Sounds great and will last a long time. I had one on a 6.0 and I'm about to order one for my 5.3.

camZ71.muffler delete might get you an extra 5hp depending on the mods you have already, but you could lose mpg's.straight or hollowing out the cat is plan stupid.you'll lose hp and mpg.

i have always used flowmaster mufflers. i have had the 50 series, 40 series, and super 44. i loved them all. never kept them on long enough for them to rot out. i started with the 50 SI/SO, and it was too quiet, then bought the 40 series SI/SO. then i found a smokin deal on a super 44 SI/DO. i have since sold that truck

on my 2011 sierra i put a 14" magnaflow. it is very nice because is as quiet as stock while cruising. once you get on the throttle you can tell its there. the one thing i dont like about my magnaflow is that its too mellow sounding.

i just found another good deal on a SI/DO for my 2011. so i gave into temptation and bought another 40 series flowmaster SI/DO.

    • Brought my 2015 Colorado into the dealership to check my touch screen issues, had that ghost touch thing happening. They said I needed a new touch screen and they could either order me one for $500. The lady at the service deck was nice enough to tell me I could order a touch screen online for less, she did stipulate that the touch screen had to be factory OEM, you can't pair an aftermarket screen to my radio seeing it was 2015, it had to be a GM factory OEM only. I found a few on Amazon and Ebay by the numbers on the back of the old screen, DJ080PA-01A GM# 22740886, Some said "OEM" in the description and others just said "Replacement". Would a replacement be the same as a OEM as long as it had the same numbers on the back of the screen? In some of the descriptions they also show different brand names but same numbers, is that an issue?
    • I have both but typically use the 4 legged walker (wheels on front, ski's on back).   The four wheeler is starting to be used on "longer" outdoor walks.  The 4 legged walker is particularly helpful in practicing good walking posture.  Both of my knees are at different stages of recovery and I'm trying to not develop poor habits.  I can actually manage with a cane but it's very difficult not to favor one leg over the other.  My PT recommends I continue with my 4 legged walker for a while.  Yesterday was four weeks since my last knee replacement and I'm excited about my progress to date.  It has been a hell of a rough journey so far but it is exciting to witness  systematic and continuous improvement.  I went for years watching the decline of my "mobility".  It seems that everyday now I am alerting my wife to something I can do now that I couldn't a day or two ago!  I encourage anyone facing the prospect of knee replacement to share any concerns with others who have had the surgery.  It isn't an instant fix but rather is a considerable amount of short term pain for long term gain.  Recovery time and pain levels vary for individuals post surgery but the end results are typically very positive and I've never encountered anyone regretting having had the surgery.
    • The lifter issue can be dealt with by shorter oil changes and quality oil IMO.
    • Got heavy rain, hail and light rain yesterday.
    • I'm putting in an A-pillar pod/gauges, and I'm asking if anybody can identify a (preferably) fuse for a switched power and illumination circuit on the driver's side interior fuse panel. Offhand, everything I checked with a test light was constant-hot, and I'd much rather uses a piggyback fuse. I can certainly find a wire, but I'd rather not half-tap.   Thanks in advance for any help.
