I am trying to find a decent cam upgrade throughout all the muck on the internet and I am at a standstill.....I really just want a few answers to my questions:

1. What is the highest lift i can go with a stock setup?

2. What would be best all around for a daily driver setup?

3. best place to look for?

I don't mind switching out all the stock springs and so forth to get the best all around but i don't want to dump 2000 bucks into something and find out its crap! Any helpwould be great!

Contact Pat G at engine power systems (EPS) and let him know what your goals are and I would be willing to bet he would set you up. Also, if it is worth changing, it is worth changing the springs, lifters, and pushrods.

Any idea of a price range i should be expecting?

Rather than pay someone to spec your cam for you, just call up the company you plan to go with, let them know what you are wanting out of the cam (high end, low end etc) and future mods you plan- they will definitely be able to recommend a grind.

Cam prices will vary on the company you go with....springs, pushrods etc- you get what you pay for.

I have not done anything to the LS motors YET but based on my LT1 experience a cam company like say Comp would be the LAST place I would call for a recommendation. They have good lobes and products but the goobers on the tech line don't know anything more than how to read the catalog which is full of cams spec'd assuming you will pick too much duration and need to pass emissions testing with too much duration, so they are pretty badly compromised.

I would find a knowledgeable shop you trust and let them order you a cam, yes it will still come from a major cam company but should be better spec'd.

Since it has not been directly said yet, springs absolutely have to be replaced, otherwise stock engines usually benefit from a spring swap, with a cam upgrade it is not a choice.

nothing you have stated can give anyone the answer you are looking for.

we need to know:

what motor? what vehicle? how is the vehicle driven? (you say daily driver, but do you tow with it also?) are you willing to install a higer stall torque converter? Define "stock setup"?

Contrary to jennabear I'll say it's well worth calling someone such as EPS to have a cam spec'd. Keep in mind that you will need a GOOD custom tuner for any custom cam (at least any worth the time to install). Think about the questions I stated above and talk to someone that knows their way around an LS1.
