2500hd.. 6.0 1500..6.2 ?

Just curious why the heck gm would stick a new 6.2 thats makes more hp and tq in the 1/2 tons and keep the 6.0 in the heavy duty 3/4 tons..

First thing I see is the 6.2 is all aluminum. I would imagine that has something to do with it.

Yeah, but they could have made an iron block too I too believe they should have put it in the 2500's too.

im hoping they do soon. but they are going to change the engines up in about 2013-14. all DI from what the rumors are. we will see.

GM needs the 6.2 in the 1500's to be competitive with the new F150's and rams, that just what im guessing. and the 6.0 is a great engine for the 2500's but i hope the next engine is around 7 liters...

It´s vice versa....Ford needed a new 6.2l engine to be competitive with the GM 6.2 that was intrduced in the Escalade and Denali lineup in the 2007 model year....RAM still has just the 5.7l HEMI...

But I asked myself the same question a year ago making my order...I wanted the 6.2 but it was not available in the HD´s

If they made an iron block 6.2 it would have to be derated from the 1500. All that aluminum cools faster and allows more timing and/or compression. The iron is more durable for heavy work.

iron or aluminum..just still seems crazy to have a biggger stronger engine in the 1/2 ton.

You are associating output with strength. Cast iron is a "stronger " material than aluminum in the area that matters to engine block design. They cannot simply pour cast iron into the aluminum casting and create a cast iron block. There is more to an engine besides HP and TQ numbers.

I don't think he meant it that way. He's referring to the fact that the HP/TQ numbers are higher on the 6.2L than the 6.0L in the 2500's. You'd think that GM would put the bigger/badder motor in the 2500's.
