Help...power Wire Location

Hey guys. I'm installing a water pump in the bed of my 08 Silverado and need to find the closest source of continuous battery power. I tried tapping the red/black wire of the trailer harness, but it's not showing any power when the trucks turned off. Is there another harness nearby that proivides constant power?

Did you connect the wire to provide power to the trailering wiring in the fuse box and add a fuse (forget the size)?

No, I tapped the wire at the the harness at the rear of the truck near the spare. I have a 7 amp inline fuse near the pump. The pump only draws roughly 3 amps.

the other end of that wire is not connected at the fuse panel, once it's connected it needs a fuse to pass power from the panel to the wire.

look at some of the threads for installing electric brake controllers for more specifics on how to make that wire live.

I tested the wire with my multi-meter while the truck was turned off and didn't get a reading, so if connecting the the pump to it doesn't acitvate it, I'll have to look for another option.

It can't activate it.. the red/black wire you hooked to doesn't connect to anything on the other end. Your connection is fine you just need to hook the other end of the factory wire up as shown in the pictures posted and add the fuse in the fuse panel.
