Well Toyota made billions from selling unimaginative/boring/mediocre/cheap appliances...I guess the recipe is working for Ford.

Then again...we all know what happened to Toyota when they started to cut corners in the name of profits.....

the f-150 and new blow job lips super dutys are growing in numbers around here...i have no problem with it, rather see american then ricers..although henry ford was a closet nazi(true fact) on a side note alot of guys comes in with the newer powerstrokes and i guess they have an issue where they go into limp mode easily...

Yup, I am starting to see a lot of new F-150s as well, but I've also seen an increase in Silverado's in the area too. Surprisingly not too many HD Rams out there, mostly HD GM and Fords.

My very unscientific observations would point to almost an even split between GM/Ford 1/2 tons. Most of the Dodge's I see are the 2500's with the Cummins.

I did notice over last weekend 3 new Focus's. They are a pretty sharp looking car, but they resemble a Mazda 3 5 door almost too much. I believe there is a lot of Mazda DNA in the Focus platform. The Fiesta's appear to be doing well, I've seen a bunch of them.

Profit per vehicle is up and sales are up, not too shabby. So besides Hertz and Enterprise somebody must be buying their vehicles.

The Ecoboost V6 might benefit them in Gas Mileage now, but if there planning on keeping that truck for a while then the repair bill will eventually bite them. . .

I tend to agree with you. However, I just sank about 2 grand into my naturally aspirated GM V8 becuase of head failures. The repair bill bit me hard. I'm not a fan of turbo's but if Ford did it correctly and did not cut corners, it may be a winner. But that is a HUGE if.

Basic relibaility science says the more parts you have, the higher probability of failure. However, this is not "new" technology (DI or Turbo). Its application is unique. We'll check back on Ecoboost in a year or so, when regular people have had time to abuse them. The way they are selling, there will be a good population to see just how reliable they are. One could argue Ford has the 5.0 in its lineup - just in case.... we'lll see

It took Ford over 10 years to get the spark plug issues fixed on the boat anchor, mod V8s. Their durability testing is a joke...and I have little doubt that they will screw up the Ecoboost engines just like they did the 6.0 PSD, 6.4 PSD, 2011+ Mustang manual trans, MY Ford Touchy thingy, etc.

And anyone saying the new Focus looks good needs to have an eye exam. It's one of the worst looking cars to come out of the Big 3 in a very long time. The Europeans hate it. It's another case of Ford making people long for the previous model because it looked so much better:

How do you eval reliablity testing? Whats your expirence? Its a subjective anaylsis, based on operating parameters, assumptions and statistical data. HALT, HASS and FMEA are the typcial techniques. Ford developed the 8D problem solving method commonly used across many industries. NO reliability testing from ANY manufacturer of ANY product is 100% bulletproof (How many shuttles did we loose?) NASA has the best reliabilty standards/testing on the planet and we still killed people. Im not defending Ford, this is a reality of manufacturing ANY product. Humans still design and engineer the stuff - we make mistakes. Think more about manufacturing in general and not just "x" company. I like to see real world performance over time - that is the true measure of reliablity. Remember, cost is as much a part of the engineering decisions made, as product reliability. I dislike Toyota, but I have yet to see any empirical evidence of their throttle problem - NASA and the NTSB could not find anything. I wish they would have found a smoking gun, not because of my dislike for Toyota, but because it may have been valuable data to all of us who drive cars.
