Gmt-800 De-badging, De-moulding...

Anybody have any pictures of a GMT-800 without and door moulding or anything. On one side of my truck the pin stripe and door mouldings are faded bad. I'm planning on pricing having them replaced but thinking it won't be cheap. And may have to do both side to get a perfect match. So I'm thinking about just having them removed.

Check out my profile. My truck isn't exactly stock, so it won't be the same as yours will be. I will post some pictures after I wash it tonight.

That truck does look good. It's hard to visualize though because my truck will be stock. How old was the truck when you removed the molding? Did you do it yourself? Was there any marking or scratching on the finish where the molding trim had been there for a while? I'm still considering it.

I know my faded molding has to go. But if I don't want to leave it plain I've been wondering about putting the '03-'06 GMC side molding on. It's basically just like one single chrome blade/spear. I've always like it. Anybody know if that would work?

if you take the molding off the side you will have to be VERY careful not to ding your door. the molding prevents dents and scratches on your door and it works well.

i made an attemp to take my molding off my 2001 silverado and it didnt end well. i could not get the sticky shit off for my LIFE spent almost 2 hours scraping so i finally have up and put the trim back on with double sided 3M tape.

Yeah I thought about trying to tackle it myself but I'm going to see what the dealership body shop guy would charge. He has done a few things for me in the past and his work is top notch.

3M Eraser Wheel. If you have a drill (corded, NOT cordless), it will take you no time at all.

The Eraser Wheel can be bought online, or I found mine at NAPA (they ordered it, took a day or so to get it). Make sure and get the mandrel with it. I did my entire 2500HD with it and it had more than half life left in it.

See youtube video (not mine) of a guy using it.

Mine was a 2003, so it was old gunk. And it came off pretty easy. I did the sides and tailgate.

    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
