Does Ford make the 302 or 351 anymore? Also I'm having a debate with a friend, he thinks that Ford owns Cummins, I say they dont. Can anyone settle that for me? Thanks. As you can tell I'm a new user, I've been watching this board for a while and finally decided to sign up. I'm glad to be part of the message board family. :)

First,  WELCOME! :)

I know that Ford does NOT own Cummins. Cummins supplies engines to Dodge.

I've heard that story about Ford/Cummins.  I don't think there is anything substantial to that story.  I think the PowerStroke is a derivative of the Navistar Diesel.  It is true that there will be an optional Mercedes Diesel available in the Dodge line-up...

I'm positive you could buy a 302 or 351 in a "factory crate motor", but the V-8 motors in their vehicle line-up are the modular Triton design.  I don't think that in this country those 2 engines are available in a production vehicle.

For the time being I drive a Ford. I'm 16 so its my first truck. I got it for free from my older brother. He drove it throughout highschool then he bought a new truck and it was passed to me when i turned 16. The truck is a 1987 Ford F-150 2wd 4speed manual with the 300 inline 6 engine. I might catch some heat for this being an all GM forum but I dont think there has ever been a more reliable engine ever than the Ford 4.9 I-6. My truck has 190,000 miles on it, I know atleast 20-30k of those were beating the hexk out of the truck since my bro drove it than me. I like all trucks but I prefer GM.

Welcome to the forum. Don't worry about what you drive, we all love trucks here. Even though the froum is titled GM Trucks we also have a section for other manufactures. Have fun.

No one really knows who owns Cummins, many companies have their motors supplied by this maker.  It is a stock owned company with no real majority owner from what I can tell.

The story I heard about the cummins Dodge Ford thing is this .... dodge had the rights to sell the cummins in there truck ,  this contract is about to expire and Ford has apparently opted to pick-up the contract( excuse the punn) so it really isn't a question of who owns Cummins but who owns the right to sell the cummins.  As far as I know Cummins owns Cummins. And mabey it isn't such a bad thing that (if the story is true)Ford is taking Cummins into there lineup.  Mecedes... I dunno.  Dodge should go after one of the big dogs Cat, Mack, Kenworth, Detroit,  There are so many good diesel engine manufacturers that could supply Dodge with engines that I don't think Dodges fans have anything to worry about.

Bye the way welcome to the forum there really are some great people here I'm sure you will enjoy it, and don't worry about the questions you ask, I've asked my fair share of dumb ones and everyone here was quite friendly in there resonses.
