Called The Dealer The Other Day...

I called the dealer about 3 days ago. I asked him about those lint catchers in my truck, otherwise known as seats. He acted like he had no clue what I was talking about. I said that is was a big enough problem that there was a Service bulletin out on it. He said he would have to look that one up. He called back a few minutes later and said he found the bulletin, and that he would talk to his manager about this. About an hour later, another call from him. He said that the material in the newer cover had much more vinyl in them, and that he suggested that they order one in to see if I liked it enough to change all of the seats out. I know some of you have had your seats changed out. What is your opinion of the new seat covers?

He is talking about the cloth seats in the GMT-900 trucks. AKA 07.5-10 trucks that did not have the leather seats.

GM did something to the formulation in the cloth and they collect lint like crazy and the dark colors really show the lint they collect vs the light colored seats.

GM issued a TSB about the problem ....

I have the leather seats so I do not have the problems and have not really paid any attention since it does not apply to me.

Hopefully that clears up the matter for ya.

Just because you see a post about it on here and there is a TSB out there does not mean that your local dealer will know about the problem. I've found this out time and time again. Yes many service departments will do a TSB check in regards to a specific problem, but again does not mean that dealer has had any customers come in with the problem you are having.

Take a look at any new same model truck on the lot with cloth interior. They are replacing yours with the stuff new trucks get.

Which if it is truly better, I can't imagine how bad it must be with the previous rendition of seat covers. My '11 is terrible for collecting lint.

I agree with post above......Also, in the dealer business, we get told that because there is a bulletin on a particular issue, that the manufacturer knows all about the problem, and therefore they should pay for repairs. I've even had the bulletins referred to as recalls, which they are not. There are thousands of bulletins for any given brand or model. They are there to assist technicians diagnose issues they are asked to repair. Sounds like it was a Service Advisor (which I am) you talked to on the phone. Service Advisors hear lots of issues on their brand, but are certainly not familiar with all bulletins. I hope you believe that most dealers are there to help out on all isues to the best of their ability. The one's that don't have that philosphy, usually don't last!

Get some seat covers. Wet-okloe makes great covers that have extra built in padding.

Protects your truck, makes it easier to keep it clean, they feel much better than cloth and no more lint. You can't even tell you have seat covers or you can get them with Grey inserts to class up your truck.

I checked out the new cover today. I am going to go ahead and get them. The seats are darker, and material is definitely different. I don't know how they can be worse at collecting lint than the ones I have now!
