Upgraded the Fog Lights

Recommended Posts

There was some talk on another board about changing the fog light bulbs.  The talk was about 38 watt sylvanias (#893).

I upgraded ($4.79 a bulb) and there is a noticable difference.

Just thought id shed some light (haha no pun attended) on upgrading the fog lights

Keep an eye on them.  50 watt bulbs melted my housings.     I've heard others have used 38's, but I didn't want to take the chance again.  :flag:

They are 38 watt.  I think the stock ones are 27 (bulbs had the number 27 stamped on them)

A few people have been running them on their trucks and had no problems.

I did hear about the 50 watters melting the housings :thumb:

I replaced my '99 fog lights with the 893's also.  I re-aimed the foglights and that helped too.  Didn't see any problems caused by heat when I had the truck.  I was going get the new bulbs for my '02 when I was in Walmart the other day, but couldn't recall the bulb #.  Maybe next time I'll grab a set if I remember.

I got my dealer to replace my housings under warranty after the 50 watt bulb deal, but just didn't want to take a chance on it again.  I may have to give it a try after seeing some having them for quite a while.

And yes, the stockers are 27 watt.  Pretty weak.

So Bert, what do you think? I assume most of you have the rectangular fogs. Anyone think a problem could arise using the 38's on a Z71 Tahoe? The housing are smaller and round...

Be careful, I had them in my stock foglights and it made the reflective part of the light start to bubble up.  This was with the 38 watt bulbs.  I think if you live in a cooler part of the country you would probably be ok but in the south it gets rather warm.
