Would like to get some thoughts on running boards or side steps (nurf bars). I have the Dee Zee FX black running boards on my crew cab (just run the length of the cab) but do not think they really protect the bottom of the truck or add anything in the way of looks to it. I find it very difficult to keep them clean looking enven after washing and detailing. Other thoughts on this topic could not find anything posted as far as polls.

If you take your truck wheeling, nerf bars, side steps, running bars all will just get in the way and get destroyed on a good trail. If you looking for rocker protection there are way better options out there.

I put a set of Raptor 5" oval steps on mine. I don't really like the looks of the boards on some trucks, but with 2 bum knees that bother me all the time, it makes getting in and out of the truck a lot easier, and taking my 2 girls and my niece and nephew to school, it is a whole lot easier for them to get in the truck by themselves than to pick them up and put them in, or have them stepping all over the sill plates and scratching them up.

Ive got a set of DeeZee nerf steps on mine. They came on it when I bought it last Dec. and I thought about taking them off. But, the more I take it offroad, the more I like them. They keep sticks and crap from beating the bottom of my cab. If I was rock crawling, then Ide look into som serious protection, but all I do is drive down the trail to my deer blind (mud, sticks and deep sand, no rocks).

I also left them on because my wife likes having the help getting in. My truck only has a 2" lift, but its just enough for her to have to use the bars.
