Brake Controller Question Gmt-900

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used a 4 wire trailer plug under the dash so they can remove the brake controller when not in use on a GMT-900? Part of my thinking is I would like to upgrade to a newer inertia style controller in the future which would make the upgrade easier.

I know what will be posted- "Upgrade now!" Reason I am not upgrading right now is I have a brake controller (Draw Tite Activator) and the wife's job is looking iffy at the moment.

Also, it would allow me to remove the controller to prevent any banged up knees getting in or out of the truck.

TY!

Chris,

Here is the brake controller I use. You can unplug the harness from the back of the controller and get it out of your way. Etrailer.com also sells the right wiring harness to hookup the controller to your vehicle. Give them a call if you can't find the right harness on the web site. They also supply installation instructions. There are cheaper controllers but this one really works well.

I use the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller. It can be removable if you wish as well. There are lots of threads on here about this subject as well.

I also have a P3, the wires unplug and it can be used with the easy detach mount.... but I'm over 6' tall and have no issues with my controller mounted right above my right shin (just below the lower kick panel there is a black piece that is perfect for mounting.

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
