Wierd Things - my truck is possesed!

Well, not really...

With 6,000 miles on my 2002 Tahoe Z71, I can say that I love it. Always wanted a Tahoe, and this thing is incredible. But it's done a few wierd things and at this point, my opinion is to just leave well enough alone. Give me your thoughts:

1) Fader control on Stereo reversed - When I turn the knob to the left, the rear stays on. When I turn it to the right, the front stays on. Backwards, but it works and since I only use that feature 1% of the time, I decided to let it be.

2) Fuel gauge was fluky - The other day, driving home with a 1/2 a tank of gas, the fuel gauge dropped to empty and the low fuel light came on. Since I always track my fuel usage with the trip odometer, I knew I was ok. Went to the gas station and filled up, and it's worked fine through the last 3 tanks of gas. Since I monitor my mileage regularly, I decided not to take it in as I had this happen once on an Oldsmobile, and it never happened again.

My logic is this - the truck is new, and yes under warranty, but these issues are so minor that I may get the truck back worse than I gave it to them. I've found that when they start ripping stuff apart fo track down inconsistent problems, it's just never the same.

Anyone agree or had similar experiences?

Bought a used 99 GMC Suburban 5.7 with 34,000 miles.

The engine and drivetrain sounded smooth and quiet.

Steering and suspension seemed right, so done deal.

Got an extended warrenty so dealer could fix any issues.

The problems with GM trucks are the stupid stuff.

My list:

1. Had to send the radio back to fix the clock bcause it kept re-setting to 12 o'clock.

2. Drivers seat loose.

3. Passenger door rattle. Has to go back a second time because it just re-appeared.

4. Rear passenger HVAC fan switch replaced.

5. Intake manifold gaskets leaking. A commmon fix on ALL 5.7L

6. Headlight switch and power window switch replaced.

7. small water pump intake hose is now leaking because they disturbed the pipe nipple when dealer replaced the intake gaskets.

Bottom line is watch for the common problems and use preventive maintenance. The odds are you will experience them too.

Yup, more "pain in the butt" stuff than anything else. The compass has gone into CAL mode twice already too. Again though, no big deal, love the truck!

The 5.7L problems won't exist in the 2002 since he's running a Gen III 5.3L.The electrical problems however, we'll sort out one by one. Have a great one!
