travishale84 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 so i finally got my body lift, and started installing it as soon as i got out of work at 5:30. I ran out of light around 9:00. I did end up getting all the blocks in for the cab, but the front bumper took me some messing with to figure out how the FAQ it come out of there... also the grill does NOT just pop off.... as stated in the directions. i am about 215 and i yarded on it hard enough that one of the clips broke........ so i stopped and the body lift can be installed WITH the grill in place. kind of in the way, but do able. I will be finishing my project after work tomorrow. I will also post pics of it from stock, to 3.25" of lift.
Matt_ Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Yeah i had the same issue... the grill definitely does not just "pop off". You have to take the bumper cover off first, which only takes 10 minutes, and then it'll come right out.
travishale84 Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 i still couldnt get the grill to come off... so i just left it. makes for tight quarters, but i can still get to everything. almost wish i didnt have to work today so i could just get my truck all back together. I do know that stupid lower valance is coming off the bumper today as well... while wrestiling with the bumper yesterday it scraped some of my skin off my face..... wasnt enough to draw blood, but stings like hell when water hits it.
DaveH71 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 LOL sounds like less of an install and more like a battle. Let me know how it turns out because im gonna be doing the rc 1.25" this summer some time.
97reddodge Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 yeah man like to see some pics when your done also
levigarrett Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Doing mine pretty soon and do you just suggest to leave the grill in? Let us know if you have any other areas of difficulty so I know what to look for... Good luck brother.
cparks555 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I'm in for pics and anything else that may make install easier, looking for a little extra lift myself. Hope today is easier on ya!
mhenshaw Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I have never had a problem taking the grille off. Took mine off to do the fog lights and took my brother's GMC off to put the Denali grille in. I think we used pliers to squeeze the clips in to release the grille, but its been awhile and I could be completely wrong.
travishale84 Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 NadieLite, had you told me this last night when i was about ready to burn down my truck i would have probably reached through your computer and slapped you. Im sure it is that easy to pop the grill out, but the directions and their live chat on RCS's website say to just pull on the lower part of the grill. It definately didnt budge, and i broke one clip. so i figured before i do any more damage other than a broken clip, i will see if it can be done without removing that awesome piece of plastic. I will tell you that you do not need to use the ground wire entension. right now im at the point where i need to drill for the front tow hooks, and then reinstall the bumper. then install the plastic skid plate, and reattatch everything under the hood. Then its off to the rear section i go.... once the rain stops.........
[email protected] Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 i just ordered the rc 1.25 bl and im a bit too busy to put it on, is there anyone here from louisiana that wants to make 200 bucks?
DaveH71 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Hey travis were did you jack the body up at, i've been under my truck and i don't really see and solid spot to put a jack on the body. I don't wanna be bending floor panels or throwing the doors out of alignment.
MB2008LTZ Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 I just installed this body lift on Easter Saturday. I had no problems with the grill or bumpers. Took about 7-8 hrs with some help from a friend. We also took a lunch break and had some beers through out the process. If I had to do it again I bet I could shave 1 to 2 hours off the install. A few pics

I don't wanna be bending floor panels or throwing the doors out of alignment. i tried jacking off the rocker panel, but i could tell the jacking block was going to kick out... so i used a 6x6 for jacking. it did make some un easy noises, but it didnt bend anything or throw out any door alignments

Love those rims. It needs a black bowtie on the grill now though. What size tires are those? Any other sort of lift/leveling kit to go with the body lift? Chad
travishale84 Posted June 18, 2011 Author Posted June 18, 2011 i just finished installing the RC 1.25" body lift. the rear section was very easy compared to the cab. it seems as though i have 4 places for body pucks on each side making 8 total, but RC only sent enough pucks and bolts to do 3 on each side. anyone else have this problem? I have to apologize as i did not get any pics on the install, just before and after pics. overall I will give their directions a solid C+/B-. not GREAT but they helped me. i will try to post some pics later, i have to get to my GF's sisters going away party.
