the service engine soon light shouldnt come on for an oil change.  There will be a message (change oil) in the message center to the left of the dash (small box in the cluster)

Yup, that shouldn't come on for oil, the Message Center should indicate you need a change.

If the Service Engine light is on, it's usually something like a very dirty air cleaner, bad O2 sensor or other fault with the emissions system. Is it on steady or flashing? If flashing, get to the dealer asap.

Also, you can buy diagnostic readers now at Sears and AutoZone. They're about $120 and you can plug them into the diagnostic port on your truck. It will give you a reading which will cross reference to the problem.

Its on all the time. It came on after it started raining and it's been raining for 3 days now and it's been on for three days. The air cleaner indicator is green.

The AutoZone store near me (Plaistow, NH) has the diagnostic reader I mentioned. They will read the code for no charge. If you have one near you, take it in. Good luck.

I called Auto Zone up and they said they don't do the scan anymore. I'll call around some of the other stores to see if they can do it

It looks like I'll have to take it in, no part stores around here do the diagnostic reading. Anyone in the Ventura County, Ca.

area have one?
