A Pleasant Surprise From Gm

When I got home from work today, I opened up a letter from Chevy. I thought it was another "loyalty" offer to buy a new vehicle. What it turned out to be was GM extending the warranty on the blower resistor to 10 years or 150,000 miles. I'm not sure what model years it covers, but it specifically identifies 2004. And if you already have repaired it, they will reimburse you for the repairs as long as you can provide them documentation. My resistor crapped out last year, hopefully when I bought the new one I put it on my credit card.

Now, if they would cover the cost of my Castech head replacement.

Mine just went out 2 weeks ago and I just replaced it. It would be nice to get the money back even though it wasn't all that expensive.

My scanner is not working, actually I can't find the USB cable for it now but this what the letter says:

Dear Jason Bailey,

As the owner of a 2004 model year Chevrolet Silverado, your satisfaction with our product is very important to us.

This letter is intended to make you aware of a condition that may affect your vehicle. If your vehicle is equipped with a manual heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system or heavy duty heater, the interface between the electrical terminals of the relay resistor module and the wiring connector that powers the module may be incapable of conducting higher current levels for sustained periods of blower motor operation. In addition, moisture and other contaminants may enter the fresh air intake plenum and contact the internal circuit of the module or corrode the terminals. If any of these were to occur, the relay resistor module or wiring connector could overheat and the HVAC blower may not function on certain blower settings or may be inoperative. This may be accompanied by a burning smell or smoke.

Do not take your vehicle to your Chevrolet dealer as a result of this letter unless you believe that your vehicle has the condition as described above.

What We Have Done: General Motors is providing owners with additional protection for this condition. If this condition occurs on your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado within 10 years of the date you vehicle was originally placed in service or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge. Diagnosis or repair for conditions other than the condition described above is not covered under this special coverage program.

What you should do: If you believe that your vehicle has the condition described above, repairs and adjustments qualifiying under this special coverage must be performed bya Chevrolet dealer. You may want to contact your Chevrolet dealer to find out how long they will need to have your vehicle so thay you may schedule the appointment at a time that is convenient for you. This will also allow your dealer to order parts if tey are not already in stock. Present this letter to your dealer as authorization to perform this service.

Reimbursement If you have paid for the repairs for the recall condition, please complete the enclosed form and present it to your dealer with all required documents. Working with the dealer will expedite your request, however if this is not convenient, you may mail the completed form and all required documents to Reimbursement Department, PO BOX 33170, Detroit, MI 48232-5170. The completed form and required documents must be presented to your dealer or received by the Reimbursement Department by May 31, 2012, unless State law specifies a longer reimbursement period. If you have any questions or concerns that your dealer is unable to resolve, please contact the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at 1.800.222.1020

We are sorry for any inconvenience you may experience; however we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.

I guess I'm screwed on my 99 Sierra. I replaced the resistor and blower motor last year.

Based on this posting I just called Chevrolet's Customer service line and got setup with an appointment at a dealership for Monday. Despite me getting a ton of junk mail from GM constantly at my address where I have lived for 6 years, they didn't have it on file as my current address for purposes such as this. I would recommend that if you are having this problem with your truck call the number 1 800 222 1020, hit #3 and tell them what's up. I'm at 142k, I'm glad this post was put up!

Mine just started acting up again (works intermentantly on some speeds)...and it's the second one that's been in this truck (I replaced it myself some 3 years ago).

My 2007 Classic lost a speed on the blower, so I had my GM mechanic son do the replacement. The fix isn't just the resistor, but also the harness plug. If you just did the resistor, you are only half way there.

My plug wasn't even a little bit burned up or scorched, unless this occurs in a place where you can't see it. The plug and harness looked fine. When I replaced the resistor it worked good for like three years. Did your harness plug look burned?

Just made an appointment to get mine replaced tomorrow. Lost High speed, and get an odor of burning plastic every so often.

Just got my connector/resistor replaced today for free. Went fine. Again, I'm glad the OP was there to alert me of this.
