Transmission / Timing

I have a 1988 4.3 G-10.

Story- About 10 years ago I decided it was time for a transmission service. The trans was working perfectly and I wanted to keep it that way. I thought, why don't I go and wash off the trans at the spray wash so it will be clean for the guys at the shop. Well!

I did clean it and when I pulled out of the car wash and got it up to third it would'nt engage that gear and started sliping. After pulling my hair out wondering how can this be I went ahead and had the thing rebuilt. Brought it home from the shop and reinstalled it- Same thing!!! slipping. The guy from the shop came over and disconnected the the orange wire from the trans solenoid and it has been shifting fine ever since.

I have since tried replacing both the solenoid and the relay on the other end of the wire but same thing- slipping when I connect the wire to the trans.

2 questions

1) why does the trans slip when wire is connected

2) engine idles rough, is this problem affecting vaccume at the distributor.

the idle problem is a whole different problem.I believe you have the 700r4 trans i think the connector you nuplugged is for torque converter lockup you dont need it but it might get the trans alittle hotter with out it.700r4 trans arleady get very hot on its own so it might not last as long without the connector if you leave uplugged i would suggest an inpendent oil cooler instead of running off of the rad.
