Magnetic Oil Drain Plug

Well about 3K miles ago in April I added a magnetic drain plug. Doing an oil change today and this is what it looks like, dirty and clean.

 

Same thing I used to notice with my old 2000.

without it, all that stuff makes it into the oil filter anyways. i suppose itll make your filter last longer. mines an 07 and came with one... then again i bought used.

My 08 Tahoe and 10 Silverado did not have magnet drain plugs. My 2000 did. Another cost cutting measure. I picked 2 up for around $10 from advanced auto.

My 2003 had one and my 2007 has one. Both had very little on it during the first oil change. Keep the filter changed and intervals maintained, deposits on the magnet will be minimal at best unless you have a complete failure.

My truck came used with one. It has a tiny bit of very fine particles on it each change but nothing abnormal. Im sure the mobil 1 filter should take care of anything else.

Could you post a pic or two of the non-magnetic one, to see if there's any visual differences?
