Ac Intermittently Blowing Hot Air

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 Z71 with dual climate control. Recently when running the AC, it will randomly begin blowing hot air instead of cold. No matter what I try, the only proven way to get cold air to blow again is to shut the engine off, wait around 5 seconds, then crank back up. After doing this everything seems to work fine for a week or so...then the AC starts blowing hot air again. Any ideas as to what the cause of this would be? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...it sucks having your AC go out when it is already around 100 degrees outside!

I had the exact same thing happen with my '04 Z71. I had the dealership fix it (I know, pricey) back in Aug '15. Here's the receipt for what they did:

PN: 89018365 - Actuator 9.280 I#15 - $325.78

PN: 89018374 - Actuator 9.280 I#15 - $106.51

PN: 15187371 - Retainer 9.709 - $5.83 - oops, this was the 12-volt outlet cover I had them replace while they were in there. Leaving this as I'm not sure how that applies to the overall cost.

Labor was more than parts, of course, at $490 for a total of $982.67 after tax and shop supplies.

I know this isn't the route most would take to fix the issue but thought I'd chime in if it were any help. Good luck.

Edit: I just realized how old this post is. Maybe someone else may find it helpful.
