1997 Sierra Engine Knock And Check Engine Light?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have a 97 GMC Sierra 2500 5.7L that was leaking coolant, I fixed it and when I went to start it sounds like there is a nengine knock and I have a check engine light. I changed all the gaskets while I was in there.

My thoughts are:

Rocker arms are not tight enough/pushrods not set right?

Distributer cap not set right and the rotor/cap are hitting somehow sounding like a knock and setting off a check engine light?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

You need to read the code for the CEL. Is this the last of the OBD1 engines or an OBD2? They sell OBD2 readers at "Autoland" for about $30.

Thanks for the reply.

I got a OBD2 reader on the truck and it gave me a crank shaft to camshaft position sensor issue. I got that fixed and the tingging sounds was a loose rocker arm/pushrod.

All is good now, Thanks.
