Fuse Location For Amp Install

Is it critical to have the inline fuse near the battery under the hood or is it ok to have it near the amp on the sub box?

The reason to have the fuse close as possible to the battery is if the wiring ever gets grounded somehow the fuse cuts off the battery feed. If you have a short before the fuse the wiring is not protected =( flame up) .

Best policy is never more than 12" away from the battery.
