Throttle Body Spacer Causing High Idle?

Recommended Posts

i just finished installing a AFE throttle body spacer on my 07 yukon 4.8 and now its wanting to idle high after i rev the engine a little. i cleaned the throttle body with seafome spray while i had it off, but i dont see that being a part of the issue. re installed everything by the directions, tightened everything down and went for a short drive. when i got back i turned the kon off and popped the hood to check everything, restarted the engine and it idled good until i gave it some gas. the idle jumped up to about 1600, and at times it will drop and even return back to normal....and some times it does not. is this common or an issue with the computer trying to adjust? i also have a volant intake, a jardien cat back that i installed yesterday, and the spacer i put on today. any thoughts on this? thanks

Did you move the throttle plate with your hand when you were cleaning the throttle body? If so, then the ECM will be in a re-learn mode for a short while, it is normal when you mess with the throttle body manually. Next time, turn the key to ON, but do not start it, then have someone step on the throttle to open the plate so you can clean it, don't manually move it around.

yes i did, i opened it by hand.....guess thats the problem. i figured it would correct its self over time, but didnt know that moving the plate by hand would throw it for a loop. thanks

and i have come to realize that the spacer does very little good, and never got one for that reason....but i figured i would give it a try to see if all the hype was true from the folks that swear by them for gas mileage purposes. but without the spacer, after adding the catback and the volant, i got 25 mpg average on the interstate this morning....which i was very happy with.

You will need to adjust the throttle cable if I'm not mistaken.

The reason why people swear by them is they don't want to let on they wasted their money on a POS. :D

seen them on dyno many times with 1000000% no change lol Even played with the tornado thing. lmao! Unless u paid for it to have a whistle sound your threw money out the window. So since your trowing 4 away shoot some my way! lol

Sounds like a vacuum leak due to gasket not sealing. Spray some carb/choke cleaner or brake cleaner around tb see if rpms change if it does u found your leak.

i acutely got one that does not whistle, and it really dont. and i was thinking a vac leak around the body as well, but it would return to normal idle once in a while and wouldnt change until i touch the throttle. so you dont think its me handling the throttle blade by hand?
