Paint Chipping On 2010

I washed my truck today and noticed my paint is chipping a quite a few places, im a little upset. I hardly ever drive dirt roads but i noticed that there is quite a few chips in my paint mostly along the bottom of my door and in front of the rear wheel well. I used to have mud flaps on and recently took the ones of the front because my tires hit them but they havent been off that long. I would think the paint should hold up better than this am I wrong?

If you have a dark color, i have the storm gray, you will notice chips everywhere. I have the on my rear door next to the window, next to the head light, basically all over. I wish i got a lighter color to hide them better.

Welcome to the world of environment friendly paint. They don't hold up like they used to.

 

I would rephrase it as:

 

"Welcome to the world of cheap paint." Environmentally friendly or not, paint can still be good quality paint. The paint on my truck isn't chipping and I am sure the environmental restriction already applied to my model year.

Yep... my 2011, Dark Blue... chips in that area with mud flaps and steps / nerfs. They are putting the paint on microns thin now... its easy with the robots just to do a little reprograming and save gallons of paint and $$$. The door trim seems to chip just looking at it. Also not sure on others but it sure looks like my primer under the top coat is light colored. Used to be they had dark primer for dark top coats. Probably more money savings.

 

Not just picking on GM also, seems anything newer than 2008 we have has very thin top coat. Wife motorcycle paint is so thin the tank bag with all the proper padding scratched it to primer first ride.

I tend to agree Data Sponge. GM had some serious chipping problems with paint on some vehicles in 2007. Chevy Impalas, especially red color ones were terrible. Entire panels had to be refinished on many cars. Then GM improved their process and new Impalas seem to have much better paint now. They seem to cut back until things backfire, then go back to better quality product or process.

 

Which motorcycle are you talking about? My Suzukis and Kawasakis seem to have good paint.

GM painted my Black 2007 GMC twice. It chipped pretty bad the first 2 years I had it. My 03 had maybe 2-3 stone chips in more than 50,000 miles and my 07 looked like I drove it down a gravel road every day. GM painted it under warranty twice

Yamaha FZ6... great bike! Thinnest clear and top coat I have ever seen.. it was a good hard paint and cured well it was just really thin. We were working with Yamaha about it when the local dealer went out of business on us (sad, been in town 20+ years, darn economy!) so we figured we would put some custom paint on it when she decided this summer to switch gears on me and sell the bike to friend.
