Hey Guys!

I'm getting a facotry Nav unit out of my cousins 07 avalanche that was just replaced under warranty, since he is getting some new aftermarket screen bluetooth monster of a unit.

i was wondering what is all involved on the dealers end to mate the new unit to my truck. a few dealers i have talked to around here have no flippin idea, and say 3 hours to do so.

any tech's input would be great so i can tell them what they should know already.

Cheers

If your truck has a amplified system its pretty easy , just add the vss/voice wire and the antenna and get the theftlock off and program it to your audio code in the glove box , if you have a non amplified radio you need to add a amp and the vss/voice wire and get the theftlock off .

UQA is what you are after on the sticker or UQA with Y91 , if its UQ3 or UQ5 it will sound like your in a tin can no matter who programs it.

If the truck has a Bose system, your dealer needs to program the radio as if the vehicle came with it from the factory - as montyss says, read the sticker in the glovebox to determine which options it came with.

You also need to add the harness (C4) that contains the VSS wire (pin 5) AND the voice output wires (pins 8 & 16). Voice output wires need to tie into the Front Left pos & neg speaker output wires if you want voice commands. If you want to add a camera, the dealer has to program the navi to accept it and you'd use pins 6 & 7 on C4. Click here to see the pin assignments for the outputs on the deck.

If it's NOT Bose, don't bother - you'll have to ADD an amp and it will still sound like crap. It would be better to do something aftermarket.

You must have bought a deck that came from a non-Bose vehicle. If you have a Bose navi, it requires a 4 channel amp. Also, you can get away without VSS and it will work, but map updating is slower and it may get glitchy in areas of low GPS reception (tunnels, tall buildings, etc.)

Hey thanks for the info so far.

The unit i'm getting is coming out of a avalanche with the bose system.

My sierra also has the bose system.

i would have gone the aftermarket route myself, but he just got it replaced under warranty and now he is going the aftermarket route and giving me the factory nav system.

all the dealers i've talked to say they get an outside company to program it.

If there is any techs that can chime in or can do this type of work in southern ontario, shoot me a message.

If the VSS (Vehicle Speed Signal) is disconnected, can GPS addresses be entered while the vehicle is moving?

And would it also allow scrolling through the song list on the USB stick while the truck is moving?

I did that on my 05 Escalade and it worked on that radio. It made the radio think that the vehicle was not moving.

GM used to have Mass Electronics due radio stuff. Not sure if they are still doing it.
