My 1995 Gmc Dually Engine Is Tired :(

Hey folks...need some help.My 1995 GMC dually truck stock engine 5.7L TBI is tired...no towing power, she has 218,000 miles on her still runs fine no smoke good oil pressure no ticking just no power.

I hooked onto a 32 foot fifth wheel trailer the other day for a friend to move to his new location and WOW...couldn't get the old girl out of second gear on most of the small hills!!

Guess it's time to do something...which brings me here.My old truck is in great shape and don't want to part with her so my question is what can I do to spruce her up in the engine department?

Guess I need some advice...What can I drop in the old girl for a new engine that will give me the power I need to continue to haul a 35 ft fifth wheeler trailer when I need to move it...I'm on a seasonal lot and don't move it much but I driver the old girl daily back and forth to work..

Ok lads...what are my options without changing to much and still get descent gas mileage?

Stroker, or a hopped up 5.7L with TBI, or hopped up 5.7L with carb??

Help!

Thanks Folks

if you dont want to go big block ("decent gas milage"), then i would say 383. would provide you with plenty of power for what you need. and you can go anywhere from like 2-8k, all depends on what you want to spend.

^^ you could do that, or you can get a beefed up crate 350 for cheap.

like cliobogger said, all depends on how much cash you wanna spend, you should also factor in the tranny... its probably pretty worn at 218k if its orig

A 383 would wake up the old girl, but I'm not sure how much work it would be to switch it out,I'd need some advice on what's needed?

Or can I buy a beefed up crate 350 that will just drop in and still use my TBI setup...also need advice as well?

The crate 350's with TBI what kind of hp do they put out?

Think mine from factory was around 190hp in 1995.

Thanks for the info...What are my options for a 350 motor if I want to keep my TBI setup and still have a good hauling power?

Would like to have 300 hp if it's possible with my TBI.

Hey..you can find a whole vortec for $320.00?

Wow,I'm not sure just what I need to drop a vortec in my 95 dually? Can I continue to use my TBI or do I have to go to a carb?

My 95 is a 4x4 with a 4L80E trans and 4:10 gears

Will a 350 vortec just drop in place of the original 350 or do I need to change a lot of stuff over?

What kind of hp does a vortec produce.....I'm looking for setup for towing a 35 ft fifth wheel trailer now and then,I'd like to make hp from 1400 to 3500 range

Guess I need a list of what I need to convert over to a vortec...as you can see I'm not a wrench head :dunno:

Anyone want to help get me started in the right direction... :D

What are my other options?

Thanks for the help GMstrong and the rest of the gang.
