Need Help With 2000 Gmc Sierra 2500 Park Brake Shoes And Doors

I'm trying to fix up an old truck, and I've run into a few problems due to my lack of experience/knowledge.

First up is the park brake drums. It's a Rotor/Drum combination, so I figured it was just seized or something (park brake didn't hold, failed safety). I pulled the rotor/drum and found nothing at all. No shoes were present (which explains why it won't hold). I'm guessing they seized before and someone ripped them out. This leaves me with nothing to go on.

I can't find pictures of what exactly it's suppose to look like, so I don't know where to go from there. All I see on the backing plate is the grooves at the top that the shoes hook into, and the little lever that comes out of a rubber grommet to actuate the brakes. That's it (other than rust). Where to they hook on the bottom? Am I missing something? I would think there should be two places for them to hook into, or in the very least, something to go across the shoes to stop the bottom ends from butting together.

Next up is door pins. All guides I see deal with long pins, but this truck has 2 short pins per hinge. I got an after market kit. I pulled off the driver side rear door (extended cab), and grinded off one of the factory pins, but I'm not sure how exactly the new ones go in.

The bushings are brass, and have a lip on one end to stop them from falling through. How do those normally go in? Should I face that lip on the opposite side that the pin hammers in from, or place it in and hammer down?

That backing plate looks pretty bad,I'd consider replacing it.
