A couple of nights ago I went with my son to Sears. He had a tire with a sidewall blowout he was getting replaced under their road hazard warranty. So while we were standing around doing nothing I asked the manager what type of oil they used on GM vehicles that called for Dexos oil? He looked kind of confused. And then he said he never heard of it. I wonder how many other places have never heard of Dexos Oil.

You might have confused him and he thought it was dexos oil as in another brand, did you tell him it was a specification required by GM in all new 2011 and newer GM vehicles?

Not defending the guy just when I read this post that is how it sounded, like it is a new brand of oil and not an oil specification.

Good question as to how many are out there that do not know the new requirements on GM vehicles.

You assume to much. This reminds me of one time I was getting a flat tire fixed at a local tire dealer on early am. Someone comes in for their scheduled front end alignment early. The fella says, my front end specialist will be here in little while. Moments later in walks this young fella I know, I'll call him Leroy. I asked him wats zup? He said, I work here now doing front end alignments. huh?? Last time I saw him was a few weeks before and he was loading lumber at the local lumber yard. He had no experience at doing that kind of work and was winging it. He never lasted, he is one of these guys who can do everything but nothing well.

I explained to him about Dexos being a Spec. and a GM requirement. I also showed him the icon on a quart of Mobile 1 5w30. And I also showed him a quart of Mobile 1 10w30 without the icon that wasn't a Dexos spec. oil. Like I said he looked confused and had never heard of GM Dexos Spec. requirement.

Also I was watching one of the techs aligning a Pontiac Solstice. The systems they have are Hunter. It has two towers and the four sensors for each wheel. And then you move the car back and forth on the floor to get your readings. That would be ok but he didn't even have the steering wheel straight. I can imagine how that alignment turned out.

This is why I take my vehicles to a family run place that has been doing front end alignments and wheel balancing work for the past 45yrs. They are only open during the week. Their motto is if you can't make enough in 5 days then no need to be in business. They know what they are doing and I have been going there for 24yrs. They even worked me in on the spot once. Nothing like great customer service.
