94 Chevy Ex Cab Short Box Z71 Heavy Half Ton?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

My 93 yukon needs a new rear axle and I found a guy who has a 14bolt that supposedly came out of a 94 Chevy ex cab short box z71 heavy half ton.....did GM actually make these and did they come with a 14bolt axle???

Anyone have one of these trucks?....would love to see a pic of the truck and the big rear axle in it.

Thanks.

If they ever made one I've never seen it.Most half tons I've seen have six lug wheels, some are five.I know GM made light duty 2500s with six lug axles.Did the Z71 pkg. come in 3/4t. trucks?Maybe he has a 3/4t.

Intersting because this 14 bolt is a 6 lug....i wonder if the guy that has it for sale is mistaken and it actually came out of a light duty 3/4ton truck instead of a 1/2 ton.

Yes, they made a 14 bolt 6-lug for a heavy half ton truck. My buddy has one

Wow...thats cool.....wouldn't happen to be able to post a pic of that truck with that big axle in it?

So you think that axle will bolt right into my 93 Yukon?

Did a little Googling...found this on an off-road site

''The 6 lug 14SF should bolt right up to your truck. They were available in the K1500 and 2500LD (6 lug) pickups, both of which are 1/2 ton frames, and everything is similar to your Yukon and my Blazer. The spring pads and shock mounts are in the same location too. I'd try to move the shock mounts up so they don't hang below the axle myself though. Anyways, there's a U-joint that is made for this too. I forget who makes it though.

With the 8 lug 14SF under K2500's you have to redrill for 6 lugs, and I think the shock mounts and spring pads may be in the wrong place. Also, be warry of the 6 lug 14SF that was used with the C2500LD trucks. That's a 2wd truck, and that 14SF is like 3-4" narrower than the 14SF out of the 4x4 trucks. I beleive someone on here discovered that the hard way.''

I still don't recall ever seeing one,but that don't mean they don't exist.

Thanks for all the info!!! Would it really matter if the axle was out of a 2wd truck? I presume it would still bolt up to a 4wd. The info from the seller is that it is a semi-float open diff and that it came out of a 94 ex cab z71 4wd half ton.

A bigger diff. housing(14 bolt SF) might mean a shorter driveshaft or at least a different u-joint :jester: Make sure the gear ratio is the same as the one you're removing,it must match the front ratio for the 4wd to work.

Yes it does have same gear ratio as I have now...3:42. Im hoping I wont need a new drive shaft. A U-joint I can deal with.

If anything, you'll only need to shorten your rear driveshaft a bit because the axle housings "snout" might be a touch longer. U-joint is a crap shoot. Throw it in an see how far your rear driveshaft slip yoke is sticking out of the t-case compared to what it was before the axle swap.

Oh and yeah, parking brake cables might be different too, if you need those to pass state inspection.

Thanks for all the info. If I go ahead with this 14bolt...I will be sure to post some pics of it once its installed.

I have a 2500 LD 4x4. I have the 9.5 sf 14bolt 6lug. Big axle and very strong. Just serviced the diff last weekend, amazing how big and beef it is compared to my dad's 10 bolt in his 04 silvy. I wonder why gm doesnt put the 6lug 14bolt in half tons. Here is the best pic I have, flexing out the back of my truck.
