New Battery - Low Idle Problem

Recommended Posts

like the title, i just changed a 7-year old battery and dropped the new one in. same brand, same part. got her all plugged back up and she fired right up. HOWEVER, my regular idle is about a hair under 1k. maybe ~750rpm or so. well, now if i touch the gas too quickly or let it sit unattended, the idle will drop all the way to ~350-400 and nearly cut out on me. what could have done this? i changed nothing else... it was disconnected from a battery for the length of time it took me to take the old core into the shop to swap out/buy the new battery and get back home to install. ~35 minutes total. surely the ECU isn't trying to "relearn" my trucks idle and timing right??

please help... i need this stubborn bitch to last me another 5-8 years. haha.

2002 silverado 1500, Z71, 5.3L - original owner. only mods are cold air k&n, and cat-back exhaust.

TIA!

Had a similar experience when I replaced the battery in my 07. It took a few driving cycles for everything to go back to normal.

alright... that makes me feel a little better. i was hoping it was just "relearning" things and not an effed up system from me letting it idle all first half yeserday while drinking beer and watching the game. haha
